Great Southern Distilling Company - boutique whisky, brandy, gin and vodka all distilled in Albany Western Australia

Barrels

A unique investment opportunity.  Selling barrels of Whisky is something many of the world's distilleries do from time to time.  Single Malt Whisky only ages in the barrel, once it is bottled it does not improve any further. (Although it will, of course, keep for years... if you can resist temptation), During this maturation and laying down period the spirit usually increases in value.

How it works

We have on offer a limited number of barrels of newly laid down malt spirit. We will fill a barrel, weigh and number the cask and register it in the name of the buyer and store it in our bonded warehouse.  This all occours under the supervision of the Australian Tax Office.  We provide the buyer with a Certificate of Ownership which includes the following details:-

  1. The size and weight of your cask
  2. The date of distllation
  3. The date the cask was filled
  4. Details on the spirit at casking
  5. The registration number of your cask
  6. The registered address of the bonded warehouse where your cask is stored.

What's in it for you

When the Whisky has matured, after a period of years, you have a capital asset which may have increased in value and, subject to the law, can be sold.  Or... you will find you have more new friends than you ever dreamed of, if you decide to keep it yourself.  Either way, you may make a profit or you have purchased superb Whisky at a bargain price.

Prices

We currently have available 100 and 200 litre barrels at $5,000 and $7,000 respectively.   The smaller the barrel the spirit is stored in, the larger the surface area of the barrel relative to the spirit and the faster the spirit will mature.  In a  200 litre barrel the Whisky will take around 3-5 years to mature, the longer the better.
