The Tiger Snake Story
Released in 2012, Tiger Snake Whiskey is the second style of whiskey, or whisky, to emerge from Great Southern Distilling Company, after its award winning and globally recognised Limeburners Whisky.
Using a classic grain bill of corn, rye and malted barley, and occasionally including the old hybrid grain “triticale”, all of which are sourced entirely from Western Australia, Tiger Snake is a full flavoured sour mash bursting with tones of vanilla, caramel and hazelnuts.
Like Champagne recognises wine from the great region in France, Bourbon is also a geographic indicator, so in Australia we refer to this style as a ‘Sour Mash’ Whiskey, indicative of the grain mashing process unique to Bourbon.
This mixed grain whiskey is richly textured with elegant spices and fruit with a smooth creamy finish.
Each batch is bottled at the distillery in Albany and numbered in keeping with our small batch tradition.
The Tiger Snake Anthem
Porongurup Distillery
Tiger Snake was originally made at our distillery in Albany, home to Limeburners Single Malt Whisky, however production has expanded significantly, warranting a home of its own.
A new distillery located in the breathtaking Porongurup Mountain Range, with open space and views of the mountain ranges was found. Making the most of all the region has to offer, Great Southern Distilling Company draws on the best local rye, classic grain bill of corn, and malted barely to produce a full-flavoured range of Tiger Snake whiskies.
True to the name sake, Tiger Snakes feature prominently at the Porongurup distillery and have come into the distillery on every significant date for the property – date of purchase, date of first distillation, date of first sour mash barrelling.
It’s almost as if the local Tiger Snakes slide in to check we’re doing things right by their whisky standards.
